Born in 1960 in New York City, Chris Murray has been making pictures of New York for the last 20 years. Using photographs as reference, Murray builds his architectural-based works with pencil and ruler and acrylic paint on smaller pieces of paper which he then joins together in perfectly proportioned renderings of NY landmarks. Murray, an artist with autism, personalizes the buildings he depicts with colors and dimension. His obsession with the geometric elements of the buildings, the structure and the windows, is contrasted by the freer brushwork of clouds, greenery and people. His addition of taxi cabs and recognizable elements such as signage make his works extremely appealing.
Murray is a subject of a film “Dad’s in Heaven with Nixon” which aired on Showtime.
